Food Lion to reopen 71 Greater Richmond-area stores

Grocery store firm Food Lion has completed $110m investment in 71 Greater Richmond-area stores.

The investment included remodeling the stores, reducing prices, and hiring more associates.

Food Lion stated that the remodeled stores are expected to provide an easy shopping place for customers where similar products will be grouped, new signage will guide customers in locating items faster along with efficient checkout process.

The company stated that products such as meat and produce will be of improved quality throughout the stores.

Every department and product category will see an expansion and assortment to its customers across all the stores.

The products range will also include local products and produce, natural and organic selections and craft beer.

The newly hired 1000 employees in addition to the 4000 existing employees, will assist in providing enhanced customer service.

Food Lion president Meg Ham said: “Food Lion has been a proud neighbor in the greater Richmond community since 1982, and we're excited to bring these improvements to our 71 stores in the area.

"We've spent the past several months making significant investments in our stores, customers, associates and communities to create a new grocery shopping experience. Now, customers can easily find fresh, quality products at affordable prices to nourish their families, delivered with caring, friendly service every time they shop.

“As Food Lion celebrates our 60th anniversary this year, we invite everyone to come out and experience the fresh, new changes we've made in order to deliver the products and services our customers expect.”

As part of the re-open, the company claims that it will donate 7100 meals to 71 local feeding agencies which are supported by the Food Lion stores.
